South Africa draw with Iraq in Confederations Cup opener
The Bafana Bafana of South Africa drew their first match of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup 0-0 with Asian champs.
Iraq on Sunday. Playing with Steven Pienaar on the bench, South Africa tried to work with Teko Modise providing the creative spark in midfield but it wasn't to be their night after Iraq Keeper Mohammed Kassid made a save at the feet of Bafana Bafana substitute striker Katlego Mashego in the 2nd half. A late header by Kagisho Dikgacoi was headed for the back of the net when it struck South African striker Bernard Parker on the calf and rolled away from the goal. South Africa will look to bounce back against New Zealand on Wednesday.
