Super Eagles and Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins is preparing to undergo surgery on his troublesome hernia in Germany on Monday. The 24 year old former Internazionale forward has been out since December 14th when he played for the Toon in a 3-0 victory over Portsmouth. The groin problem has been a point of contention between Martins representatives and the Newcastle United medical staff, as Martins reportedly suggested the Tyneside medics were slow in picking up on the injury and it took a trip to see medics in Italy before the correct diagnosis was made. Despite the back and forth, Martins injury has finally been diagnosed properly and the expectation is for a short layoff after the surgery and then a return for Obagoal in the run-up to the close of the Premiership season and in time to return to the Super Eagles for World Cup qualifying.
